Food on the Hoof …. Zurich.

Zurich Airport is a really rather nice airport.

It is connected, directly, to the Swiss rail network, as there is a main railway station directly underneath the airport, which makes getting in and out of the airport hassle and stress free. Directly connected to Zurich, but also to St Gallen, Bern, Basel, Geneva, Lausanne and Lucerne. It just works. Airports should be connected to the rail network. Almost all of them are.

It is a bright, airy, remarkable quiet place and there is some pretty good shopping to be had, if that tickles your fancy. Clothes, hand bags, electronics and a supermarket will all trad their wares until the late-ish hours; both landside and airside. One is not noticeably cheaper than the other, but the choice is excellent.

As is the food. Both COOP and Migros have stores that have take away items, hot and cold. There are excellent food courts, land and airside. Coffee is well catered for. There are Pret sandwiches, which are probably the best chain sandwich’s available. Better even than those from the Yorkshire Cultural Centre. Vegan maki and rice and tofu bowls are available.

Reasonably priced, all things considered.

Zurich’s only real complaint is that for those whose primary currency is euro’s or pounds, Zurich is really quite expensive. But that is more a reflection on Switzerland rather than Zurich Flughafen.
